Anti-Sapien began in Brooklyn in 2021 as a pandemic-era outlet for writing ugly, aggressive music. The band describes its mix of death metal, grindcore, crust punk, D-beat, and New York slam as “sewer-filthy death crust.” Beneath the speed and heavy grooves, their songs take a direct stance against inequality, exploitation, and abuses of power.

The project quickly grew beyond its New York roots. After touring throughout the United States, Anti-Sapien took the Pacific Ring of Fire Tour through Australia, Korea, and Japan in 2025. They returned to the East Coast in early 2026 with dates in Brooklyn, Atlanta, Richmond, and other cities, bringing their newest material on the road ahead of its vinyl release.

At the Mercy of the Merciless was released through Terminus Hate City on January 16, 2026. The six-song EP runs just under 22 minutes and takes a slower, heavier approach than the band’s earlier material while keeping its crust punk and grindcore foundation. Its lyrics focus on algorithmic manipulation, economic control, and the systems that divide and exploit people.

The EP follows Anti-Sapien’s 2023 debut album, Calculating Obsolescence, a ten-song introduction to the band’s mix of D-beat, death metal, punk, grind, and slam.
