Malefic’s debut album was almost two decades in the making. The Atlanta band originally formed in 2007, went on hiatus in 2009, and returned in 2015 with a renewed focus on what it calls “crushing blackened death thrash.” Drummer and vocalist Aaron Baumoel, guitarists Jason Davila and Sam Williams, and bassist Doug Rosander combine the melody and atmosphere of black metal with technical death metal and the speed of thrash.

Released through Terminus Hate City on February 13, 2026, Impermanence draws from several different periods in the band’s history. Some of its material was first written before 2010 and continued changing as Malefic rebuilt its lineup and sound. The result is a nine-song debut shaped by intricate guitar harmonies, forceful drumming, shifting rhythms, and lyrics dealing with personal hardship, political frustration, social unrest, and the changing nature of life.

During the years leading to Impermanence, Malefic developed its live presence throughout Atlanta and the Southeast. The band appeared at Carolina Terror Fest in 2024 and performed at the first Terminus Hate City showcase at 529 in 2025. Its 2026 schedule includes regional dates in Birmingham and Montgomery, an Atlanta show with Heathen, and a performance of Impermanence in full alongside Malformity and Metaphobic.
