THC-022: CANOPY - EMPTY LIGHT
SLUDGE, DOOM, POST-METAL
One of the very first bands I ever approached about working with on the label was Canopy back in 2018... I remember trying to talk them into signing to the label after one of their amazing shows at The Basement in EAV, back when that was a thing. This was also back when I had no clue what I was even doing with the business, and hardly knew what a record label did or how to run one. Fast forward to today, and things have come full circle. Excited to be doing an exclusive run of vinyl for these boys. Get their EP, "Empty Light" on 12" now. Color will be a mystery. Vinyls will include a double sided insert with full fold out artwork and lyric sheet.
No Clean Singing had this to say about "Empty Light":
"I have always said that sludge is what happens when punk rock tries to play doom. This album supports that theory as the aggressive manner the riffing of songs like “Neurasthenia” carries out its attack on your ears. This feels like at least half the band got into metal by way of hardcore, as it hits more like Converge or Integrity than Black Sabbath. The moody hints on “Shadow Work” find the band allowing darkness to add to the overall sonic scope of their heavy, which I am a big fan of. When it comes to heavy music, I am always seeking out bands who are creating something as heavy sonically as it is heavy metal.."
